Looking to earn some extra income and help seniors in your community?
Rent to a senior. I have numerous senior clients who need affordable housing. As a seniors housing navigator, I come across many seniors who are for the first time in their life having to rent.
Why rent to seniors?
Whether it’s the need to move close to health services, loss of spouse or managing their home becomes difficult as they age. The rising cost of living and long waits for subsidized senior housing is also a problem. 1-10 seniors are at great risk of facing homelessness.
A seniors monthly pension can range from $1500-$2200. It could be more if they have other private pensions. 2025 rental market averages a 1 bedroom for $1100 and up. Which if a senior was on a lower pension, the rent is almost 74% of their monthly income. There is rent subsidy’s available for seniors such as SAFER, Shelter Aid For Elderly Rentals, which can help if your eligible.
